Hughson High School Flag Football Finishes 4-6 in the League, 13-12 Overall

November 14, 2025

Hughson High School's Flag Football team started off with promise, featuring three key returners. However, Presley Wells was out for the entire year early on. “This injury was a blow to the team on both sides of the ball,” Coach Charly Garza said.

First-year players pivoted to unexpected roles. Rising to the challenge, the preseason and first half of the league were learning experiences for the team, leading to a strong finish in the second half of the season. “We finished very strong and earned a playoff appearance,” Garza said.

The team traveled to Central Catholic in the first round of the playoffs and upset Central Catholic High School, which took second place in the VOL. They then went to Colfax, who is 17-2 and ranked third in division four, and only lost 6 to 0.

Senior Quarterback Leah Hobby and junior Keeley Lundquist led the team. Underclassmen Ruby Ramont, Ashlyn Merritt, and newcomer Cienna Guillermo stood out among the talented first-year players.

“I am extremely proud of our girls for how they finished the season. They were very coachable and improved every week. I am looking forward to next season, as our JV team went undefeated in league, and there are a lot of athletic and promising young ladies in the program,” Garza said.

Flag Football finished the season in the League, 13-12 Overall.
