Sumter, Silva, Williams headline Hughson athletes qualifying for Masters track meet
May 21, 2025
Malakai Sumter, Lily Silva and Bryce Williams all won individual events and the Hughson girls 4x800 relay team also finished first to highlight the Huskies’ performance at last weekend’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4-5 Sub-Section track meet in Riverbank.
They and a handful of other Hughson athletes all qualified for the Masters meet to be held Friday and Saturday at Folsom High School – the final step before the State meet in two weeks in Clovis.
Sumter, a senior, won the long jump in a personal-best 22 feet, 6 inches that is the fourth-best mark in the Section this year. He also was part of the 4x0100 relay team that includes junior Eli Wilbanks, junior Lincoln Elizondo and sophomore Xavier Lovelace. That quartet finished in 43.41 seconds to make it to this week.
Silva also is a senior. She tied the school record in the pole vault at 10 feet, 9 inches to win last week and move on to Folsom. She is ranked third in the Section.
Williams, a junior, cleared a personal-best 13-2 to win the boys pole vault.
The girls 4x800 relay team of sophomore Allison Landeverde, junior Sophie Benham, senior Alejandra Gonzalez and Noeli Gomez-Orozco was first in 10 minutes, 3.75 seconds.
Sophomore pole vaulter Jacob Wetenkamp was the final Hughson qualifier for the Masters meet. He finished third at 12 feet, 11 inches.
In the Division 5 team standings at the Sub-Section meet, Hughson finished second to Ripon.
