Hughson Ag Day
Popular Ag Day returns to Hughson Elementary

April 16, 2025

In a community literally surrounded by agriculture, celebrating and understanding what it takes to grow and process the food we eat is important even for the youngest of students to appreciate. Oh, and cute kids and cute animals make a heart-warming combination, too.

All that will be on display Thursday when Hughson Elementary School hosts its 29th annual Ag Day, a tribute to all things farm-related.

The goal, said HES Principal Megan Reisz, is “to expose the students and even the community to all the amazing opportunities that we have right here in our own backyard in the field of agriculture.”

“Ag Days are also an opportunity to show appreciation for the farmers, ranchers and the many others that put food on our tables,” Reisz explained. “We are surrounded by agriculture, but not all of our students are involved in agriculture and even if they do grow up in the ag community, chances are that this is a day that they will be exposed to something that they do not have experience with.”

As always, the baby animals – pigs, chicks, calves, goats and lambs – are expected to be a magnet for the youngsters. Another annually popular attraction is a fire engine and its crew from the Hughson Fire Department.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on campus. Parents and others are invited to attend and enjoy the outdoor booths, displays and demonstrations, but cannot go into any classrooms. Visitors also are invited to participate in the silent auction, which helps fund Ag Day.

Before and after the event, there are ag-related lessons integrated into all the classrooms.
