Hughson golfer Nobles earns spot in Masters Tournament
Nov. 8, 2024
Madden Nobles just completed the best season ever by a Hughson High girl golfer.
Nobles, a junior, became the first Husky player ever to qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Masters Tournament. The fact she had a disappointing round Monday on a windy day at Spanos Park course in Stockton does nothing to diminish that accomplishment.
“It was breezy up there,” said Don Tetrick, who co-coaches the Hughson team with Paul Gose. “The expectation was to get her used to playing against competition at that level.”
Nobles shot 101 at Spanos, a difficult links-style course even on a calm day. When the wind comes up, it plays even tougher.
Nobles earned a spot in the Masters Tournament by virtue of her impressive play on Oct. 28 at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club in Marysville and the small schools Sub-Section Tournament. There, she shot a 97 to nail down one of the six individual qualifying spots for the Masters Tournament.
Nobles was an all-league player for Hughson during the Trans-Valley League season. She shot a 92 at Micke Grove in Stockton at the final TVL tournament to qualify for the Sub-Sections.
“She’s a good ball striker,” said Tetrick of Nobles, who has played on the golf team for three seasons. “She’s good with her driver and she’s got a good short game. She’s a hard worker who wants to improve all the time.”
