Trina Carnes
Honoring Employees Retiring: Trina Carnes

Name: Trina Carnes

Position: Third-grade teacher, Hughson Elementary

Years in the district: I am currently completing my 21st year at Hughson Elementary School

Favorite memories/accomplishments: I’ve been truly fortunate to create countless joyful memories as I witness the excitement in children when they discover new knowledge, achieve their goals, or eagerly anticipate and participate in upcoming school activities. Teaching academics has been a rewarding experience, but my greatest passion lies in unlocking their creative potential through writing and art. Beyond the classroom, I’ve cherished the friendships I’ve built with my colleagues past and present, adding another layer of joy to this incredible journey!

What will you miss the most? I may miss routine. After many years of routinely hitting that 5 a.m. alarm clock and following a school bell schedule, I may feel like a fish out of water. However, after a week or so, I’m sure I will become accustomed to a new normal.

Any special retirement plans? Yes, I plan to celebrate this milestone by taking a northern Mississippi riverboat cruise with my husband around the time school resumes. I look forward to spending more time with my seven grandchildren, reconnecting with hobbies I love such as painting and reading, and I may even start a book club.
