Meet Jenna Kendall

Name:  Jenna Kendall

Family: Husband, Bryant, and two children who attend HES

School: Fox Road Elementary

Position: Fourth-grade teacher

Experience and education: I attended Humboldt State and received my degree in liberal studies elementary education and then Stanislaus State for my multiple subject credential.  I taught kindergarten and first grade at Mary Ann Sanders Elementary in the Sylvan district in Modesto.

What attracted you to Hughson? I adore our small town and feel so honored to not only live in Hughson but to teach in Hughson.  The community is something special here and I feel so blessed to be a part of it. I am so excited to be able to teach in the same district as my kids.

What most inspires you about what you do? Making a difference in a child’s education. Helping kids find their spark in learning and making learning fun!

What is a challenge you look forward to tackling this year? Just being a new teacher can always be a little difficult. The Fox Road family have already made me feel so welcomed and I can’t wait to build my relationships with the whole staff and students.

What is your favorite teaching tool or activity? Something I really enjoy using in my classroom is flexible seating. I love giving my students options to sit at their desk or on the floor. Things like exercise balls, seat cushions, wobbly stools, regular stools, lap desk, etc.

What do you want your students to remember? I want my kids to remember that my class made them happy and that they always had fun learning! My number one goal is for my students to always feel safe, loved, heard and taken care of.

How can parents support what you do? Communication is key! I believe that parents and I are a team to help their child grow in academics and their social-emotional well-being. When the parents and I are on the same page, we can help their child grow and learn to their highest potential.

What would surprise people about your job?  How a classroom really becomes a big family. They aren’t just my students, but they become my kids. I strive to make sure they always have a place to feel welcomed, loved and have a safe place to speak their mind.

What do you do for fun?  I love to go camping and travel with my family. The beach is my favorite place and love to just sit there and watch my kids play in the water and sand. I also love to bake and make decorated sugar cookies.
