Name: Eric Reeher

Family: Fiance, Elizabeth; sons, Lucas and Xavier.

School: Emilie J. Ross Middle School

Position: Sixth-grade education specialist

Experience and education: This will be my ****24th year in education (substitute, after school program, tutor, outdoor camps) and seventh as a full-time teacher. I have a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from California State University, Chico, and a teaching credential from Teacher’s College of San Joaquin.

What attracted you to Hughson? I went to junior high and high school in the small town of Wheatland (north of Sacramento). Hughson reminds me a lot of Wheatland. I like the family atmosphere and togetherness that a small-town community brings.

What most inspires you about what you do? I love being able to positively impact my students’ lives.  Not only being able to be their teacher, but also be a role model, a mentor, and somebody that they can rely on.  I also love when that “light bulb” moment happens with my students, the “Aha! I got it!”

What is a challenge you look forward to tackling this year?  I look forward to building a rapport and a positive relationship with all my students and with my students’ parents.

What is your favorite teaching tool or activity? I love beginning the year off with icebreakers, teamwork and getting to know you activities.  Google Classroom, Kahoot and Blooket are just a few of the teaching tools that I enjoy using in the classroom.

What do you want your students to remember? That a positive mindset, attitude, effort and a willingness to learn goes a long way.

How can parents support what you do? Parents can help support what I do by encouraging their child to take responsibility for their work. Checking their planners nightly and holding them accountable for their assignments**.**

What would surprise people about your job? A lot more goes into teaching than just the 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. school hours. ** **

What do you do for fun? I enjoy coaching my son’s youth sports teams for soccer and baseball.  I love spending time with my family and friends.  I enjoy attending live concerts and sporting events. I love the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland A’s, Sacramento Kings and Notre Dame college football.  I also love to cook! I love barbecuing and exploring and trying out brand new tasty recipes.** **
