“Homecoming is a great high school tradition, especially in small towns like ours. The floats, the parade, the game, and all of the other activities build our great culture, and students remember how much fun they had for the rest of their lives.” - Principal Loren Lighthall.
Hughson High went Hollywood with this year’s homecoming theme: “Lights, Camera, HOMECOMING.” The theme included dress-up days, Monday through Thursday. Monday was Adam Sandler Day, “Sandler on the Silver Screen.” Tuesday was G.I. Joes vs. Barbies, “Two Icons. One Day.” Wednesday was Wig Out Wednesday, “Hollywood Wigs, Wild Hair & Everything in Between!” and Thursday was Y2K, “Hollywood’s 2000s Throwback.”
Each class’s float was based on a movie genre. Freshmen built a Disney movie float inspired by “The Lion King.” Sophomores took to science fiction with “Star Wars,” and juniors chose a superhero float based on “Spider-Man.” Seniors drew from horror movies. Freshmen won for best class float. Juniors placed second, seniors third and sophomores fourth.
Keith and Kathy Hatfield were chosen as grand marshals for the parade. Over the years, the Hatfields have made significant contributions through their leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to local organizations. Kathy Hatfield served on the Hughson School Board for 12 years and has been actively involved with the Hughson Historical Society, the 20th Century Club, and numerous fundraising committees. Together, the Hatfields played vital roles in the development and success of Sober Grad Night, helping create a safe and memorable celebration for local graduates.
“We chose Keith and Kathy again based on a class vote and student voice,” Activities Director Kourtney Christianson said. “Keith and Kathy Hatfield are lifelong residents of Hughson who have dedicated countless hours to serving and strengthening their community. They’re deeply rooted in Hughson's culture and traditions; Keith and Kathy have always taken great pride in supporting their community.”
The Hatfields are regulars at Hughson High School sporting events, where they have cheered on their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. “Their unwavering commitment to family and community exemplifies the spirit that makes Hughson such a special place,” Christianson said.
The parade began on Whitmore Avenue, between Euclid Avenue and the Hughson High School entrance near Seventh Street. Floats traveled down Whitmore to Charles Street, where they turned right on Charles and then onto Hughson Avenue, ending in the school’s back parking lot.
From the Class of 2027, Paul Golding was crowned Homecoming King, and Addison Taber was crowned Homecoming Queen. The other nominees from the Class of 2027 were Darren Jenks, Diego Salinas Carbajal, Salvador Ruiz, Ariah Galvan, Miranda Olivares, Addison Taber and Izabella Tribble. Mr. Tury and Ms. Costa were nominated for All-Star Teacher.
And that night, Hughson High School went head-to-head against Sonora. At the Varsity Homecoming game, Hughson took down the Sonora Wildcats, 31-14. Hudson Baldwin threw for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 9 passes. Hughson now holds a 5-2 record this season.
