Hughson High School Career Day Offers Glimpse into Students’ Future
May 6, 2026
Since 2015, Hughson High School Key Club has given students a unique opportunity to interact with representatives from a wide range of professions in its annual Career Day. This year, Career Day was held on April 24.
“Career day is a great opportunity for our students to learn about career options. Mr. Bullock and the Key Club do a great job getting a wide variety of professionals and various careers to campus to talk with our students,” Principal Loren Lighthall said. “It's an invaluable day and opportunity for our students to learn and prepare for the future.”
From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the old gymnasium, students toured table after table, learning bits and pieces, deep-diving into conversations about careers that piqued their interest, and completing a simple questionnaire to facilitate their engagement. Professionals brought brochures, swag, and a wealth of knowledge about what it's like to turn a dream into a career.
“The Hughson community always comes and supports the high school,” Key Club Advisor Keith Bullock said. “We have both white and blue collar, the military and a couple of trade schools. This year we have 45 careers, that is, over 65 professionals sharing insights into their profession.”
Every student at Hughson High School has a class period to walk through and interact with professionals in a job that they are interested in. They will then be graded on their completion of questions about careers they find interesting.
It’s just one of the ways Hughson High School seeks to equip students inside and outside the classroom. “This is an opportunity to take a glimpse into their future,” Bullock said. “Teachers can only teach so much in the classroom; students need to get out and interact with professionals, it might just spark a dream for the future.”
